With the Samsung Galaxy S4 launch fast approaching, the rumor mill for Galaxy Note 3 is still very much alive. While the previous Galaxy Note 2 measures 5.5-inches, now Samsung apparently announced that they want to make it bigger with a 5.9-inch handset.
According to Korea Times, Samsung announced Wednesday that they plan to release a 5.9-inch smartphone, which is more likely to be Galaxy Note 3, in the closing half of this year to cover the new market created by Chinese phablet manufacturer in the 5.8 to 6-inch size range.
"Samsung is working on introducing a new phablet using a 5.9-inch organic light-emitting diode (OLED) screen," an anonymous official told The Korea Times. He also said that Samsung will use the new octa-core Exynos chipset, which coincidentally is the rumored chipset that the upcoming Galaxy S4 will carry. The new Exynos 5 Octa was announced by Samsung at CES 2013. This powerful chipset is manufactured on 28 nm architecture and has 4 x Cortex A15 cores clocked at 1.8Ghz and 4 x 1.2 Ghz Cortex A7 Cores. The graphics processing unit fitted on Exynos 5 Octa is a tri-core PowerVR SGX-544MP3 GPU. Clocked at 533 Mhz, this GPU outmatches those of iPhone 5 and iPad 4 running at 266 and 300 Mhz respectively.
An upgraded follow-up handset with faster chipset, bigger display, more RAM and storage, and better imaging capability makes sense if Samsung is going to bank on the success of the Galaxy Note II which was launched August last year.
Concurrently, more Samsung Galaxy S4 screenshots were revealed this morning. Allegedly, It is powered by a 1.8Ghz quad-core (previously rumored 8-core) processor, a 5-inch 1080p display with a whooping 440ppi rating, and a 13-megapixel camera. More on the S4 later.
