The Intel Atom powered Asus FonePad officially launched in the Philippines only after a week of its introduction in the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona Spain.
The Asus FonePad is one the few mobile devices powered with an Intel processor, an Intel Atom Z2420 running at 1.2Ghz to be exact. Antutu benchmark scoring shows the FonePad lagging behind Google Nexus 7 which sports a 1.2Ghz quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core processor. The FonePad scores only 7000 compared to Google Nexus' 12000. Despite of this, performance is still superior compared to similarly Intel Atom powered smartphones like the Xolo x500 which only scored 6028 in Antutu. Thanks to its ample 1GB RAM capacity.
Design wise, it scores high in the looks department. The FonePad is sheltered gorgeously in a metallic shell with metallic backplate in matte finish. It still holds comfortably despite its size. The 7-inch IPS display features a 10-point multitouch in crisp 1280 x 800 pixel HD resolution.
Asus Philippines announced in their Cebu launching that FonePad will be available in the local market by second quarter of this year. Though they never spit out anything about its price, we are speculating and crossing our fingers that price will be somewhere in the Php12,000 to Php15,000 range. The tablet will cost about $249 in the international market.
Asus FonePad key features also include; 8GB and 16GB variants, 3.15-megapixel rear camera, 1.2-megapixel front camera, microSD slot capable of accomodating up to 32GB memory cards, micro SIM card slot, Android v4.1 Jelly Bean OS, and non-removable 4270mAh battery.
