Continuing Facebook's Messenger update rollout last January, when iOS users in the US got access to the new feature, Facebook has updated its Messenger for Android and has also added the VoIP call feature for its Canadian users.
This update will allow Android users in Canada to make free VoIP calls via Facebook Messenger to other users in their country, as well as iOS Facebook users in the US. This will mean big savings for heavy voice call users. Big boom for telco's data plan but definitely bane for their voice call services. Saturating US and now Canada, Facebook is slowly inching their way to capture other emerging international regions as well.
Facebook is obviously poised to dominate global digital communication. And soon, typical cellular network text messaging and voice calling will be a thing of the past.
Aside from this key update, Messenger for Android also includes updates to its group conversaion feature, adding the ability to name a group from a conversation. Users can also pull up group chats easily by the app's sidebar. All other "improvements and bug fixes" are listed on the Facebook Messenger's Google Play Store page. Messenger version 2.3 is available for Android OS version 2.2 and higher.
