Asus CEO Jonney Shih recently announced the FonePad at MWC 2013 in Barcelona. It's an all-in-one 7-inch tablet with full 3G phone features. Asus is full speed ahead in competing with strong tablet phone competitors like the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0. More of its specs, price and availability right after the jump.
Speculations about the new Asus FonePad was all right on the dot. It does indeed powered by an Intel processor, a decent 1.2Ghz Atom Z2420. It also has a 1GB RAM, 8GB/16GB internal storage variations, a PowerVR SGX540 GPU, running in Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and 3G HSPA+ capable. This baby is also capable of running 10-hours of battery life with its Li-Ion 4,270mAh battery.
In terms of design features, the Asus FonePad has a smooth metal back finish (available in variants of gray and gold). This sleek 7-inch tablet still feel comfortable to hold in one hand with its 10.4mm thickness and 340g weight. The back panel also houses the usual antennae, micro-SIM slot and the micro-SD card slot which supports up to 32GB cards. Aside from the rear 3.15MP autofocus rear camera, this baby also has a 1.3MP front camera settled at the top of its 1280 x 800 pixel (216ppi) IPS display.
The Asus FonePad will be available 2nd quarter this year in the UK with price starting at £179 for the 16GB variant (front camera only), while the 8GB model (with 3MP rear camera) will be available in the APEC market for US$249 (MSRP). Asus also added that prices are still to be officially confirmed closer to launch.
